The Wisdom of The Body

"I know what needs to be done.
Why am I not doing it?"
Executive Coaching for Senior Leaders
Why are less than one third of transformation initiatives achieving the expected business and financial outcomes? What is making leading through uncertainty harder than ever?
The Transition within the Transformation
Taking on a larger role, leading a business through another change, integrating one more acquisition, steering the next digital and AI transformation or pursuing one's own destiny - the challenge for leaders stops being strategic after a point; competence alone doesn't cut it.
It gets personal.
Why?
Underneath it all, they feel pushed to question the ‘way of leading’ that has made them successful. At some point in their career, every leader comes to a threshold.
The Leader's Dilemma
Whether its the C-level, founders or someone a VP/Director level, the biggest impact of uncertainty is encountering parts of you that you never expected to see.
These are words that leaders have shared with us in actual coaching conversations
Here, a leader must choose:
A familiar way of leading or,
a necessary but difficult way.
“You are expected to provide clarity when the future is uncertain. How do you inspire confidence while managing your own doubts?”
“I’m trying to be respectful even when every part of me is screaming that I must not tolerate mediocrity.”
Where does this come from?
What we’ve learnt from leaders is that the unpredictable dynamics of a transforming organisation creates recurring tensions like:
-
Constantly pulled between operational demands and long-term priorities
-
Being responsible for outcomes you cannot fully control
-
Getting caught between competing stakeholder expectations
-
Feeling impatient and still trying to bring people along
-
Fatigued by the emotional weight of an ongoing uncertainty
-
Isolated, with no space to be yourself fully
-
Becoming the kind of leader that you would not want to work for
The Leader's Dilemma
“I know what needs to be done. Why am I not doing it?”
What we also know is this:
These are the very challenges that mark the beginning of a whole new phase of growth.
Unpacking the Leader's Dilemma
Today, we have more access to knowledge, frameworks and self-help content than any generation before us. And yet, leadership is harder than ever. That's because transformational leadership isn't about having information. It's a capacity that is reflected in our actions and emerges from our way of ‘being’ — in how one shows up under pressure. This ‘way of being’ is an embodied algorithm, something that lives in our cells and is activated by our nervous system when we need it; sometimes even contradicting what we know as ‘good leadership’. Why does that happen? Our way of being is an ongoing continuous response to the environment we are in and the explicit or implicit goals we create for ourselves. These goals are shaped by our core concerns as human beings that are neurobiological and biographical in nature. So, the essential architecture we work with is this: Core concerns --> Goals--> Way of being --> Behaviour patterns --> Results This becomes complex when two conflicting concerns arise at the same time. Here’s a simple example. As the temperature in the room changes, I feel I may need to put on a jacket to feel warm. That thought comes from assessing the environment and the body’s biological goal to regulate its own temperature and maintain balance. However, I also see that my jacket is old and not ‘good enough’ to be put on display in the room I’m in. So, I decide that tolerating the temperature discomfort is better than the appearing inappropriately dressed. That might come from an implicit goal of “I have to look good”, which may have spun out of a core concern around being accepted for who I am. In this case, a social goal vetoed a biological need. What might make it even more interesting is when someone asks if I’m cold to which I might reply “Not really, I’m ok, but thanks for asking.” We see the same principle in play for any life or leadership situation one may find themselves in – a career path dilemma, a growth question or a legacy threshold. Each of them requires careful dissection of the situation and unraveling the elements at play. Once we see ‘what is’ with acceptance and compassion, the path forward appears, often on its own.

Coaching as the Transformation Enabler
Coaching provides a safe space for leaders to step back from the demands of their environment and reconnect with themselves consciously.
With the right coach, they can safely share their experience, explore their beliefs and discover choices that are aligned with both the situation and their values. In other words, learn to authentically embody what is necessary, especially when it is difficult.
What we see leaders gain from Somajna Coaching:
-
Navigate ambiguity and uncertainty with a sense of agency
-
Decisions and judgment under pressure becomes easier
-
Lead difficult conversations and stakeholder dynamics more effectively
-
Teams becoming more aligned and committed in turbulent times
-
Become resilient by learning from setbacks and failures
-
Increased self-awareness and leadership presence
-
Align values and way of being with a future they care about
This results from a shift at a deeper level that offers them a clearer view of who they are and the purpose they are serving. That deeper understanding of oneself becomes the source for renewed confidence to lead through uncertainty, and an expanded capacity to meet increasingly complex challenges.
We have three curated coaching journeys that are embedded in the transformation landscape. They are equally relevant for an individual or an organisation looking to invest in its leadership team.
Some of the pathways are also available with team coaching. Click on the tabs for more on each coaching journey.
